Spring & Summer Nectar

Dear Lord, lest I forget the goodness of these warm seasons–this spring and this summer are a collage of my favorite moments. How rich and how abundant the last six months have been. Tomorrow is autumn’s equinox and the perfect time to reflect. Since I saw you last; I shaved my head over the bathroom sink, traveled to Alaska and swam with an iceberg (RIP titanic), constructed a high tunnel, received good news and bad, quit two jobs, donated half my closet, sold my furniture, and did a heck of a lot of dilly-dallying.

  • When strangers hold the door.
  • Lavina’s fresh cut flowers at the farmers market.
  • I should also add Lavina’s cinnamon rolls at the farmers market.
  • When the ground finally thaws in the spring, it’s almost too cold to touch. But the birds and the frogs chirp and sing while I work up the dirt and prepare for planting.
  • A day at the greenhouse with a latte in hand.
  • Mowing the lawn in the sun!
  • Laying out in the sun with a book and a snack and three different beverages.
  • Driving my truck on back roads.
  • Jumping in Bass Lake after a hot day of chores.
  • Running around the yard with Honey.
  • Dodging Honey and Obadiah’s enthusiastic, dangerous, wild zoomies with Bethany.
  • Doing front- and back-flips off of Bethany’s paddleboard in the middle of the lake. Admittedly, my back-flips are less of a flip and more of an “L” shaped flop.
  • Dinner at Lauren’s house.
  • My dad misattributed Fat Bastard’s “Well I didn’t have any corn!” quote to Shrek. I’m still rolling.
  • Torching things in the burn barrel–(RIP my lashes).
  • I cannot stress this enough–a hot shower.
  • I have a patchouli + lavender essential oil roll-on that makes me feel nice.
  • Using the library’s wifi.
  • Dilly-dallying.
  • Mountains.
  • Did you know there’s a free clinic in Rice Lake? How abundant and generous our community is.
  • There are wild hazelnuts, blueberries, apples, and cherries growing on my land. Who even knew?
  • When a flock of birds dance together in the sky, gently floating and soaring in unison.
  • Justin Bieber’s “Daisies”.
  • Lil Yachty’s “Magic in the Hamptons”
  • Dan’s Monday morning phone call to reflect on the weekend’s progress.
  • Bri gulps like a frog when something spooky or unexpected happens.
  • Going out for a rip with Ashly.
  • Puzzlin’.
  • Did I mention laying in the sun?
  • An afternoon nap.
  • Teamwork that makes the dream work, am I right?
  • Squealing with delight when something delights me.
  • There’s a man painting tropical leafy greens next to me at the library, and another editing photos on his laptop. And I’m writing this list. The public library is a sacred place.
  • Yapping.
