As far as I know, it’s still autumn–according to the calendar. According to both the thermometer and my icy cold extremities, it’s surely winter. Which means, it’s as good a time as any to sip on the juicy sweetness of my autumn nectar list.
- Honey chases leaves in the wind. When she was small, she looked like a bear cub frolicking with her fat little butt so low to the ground.
- The way the golden hour sun glows around Honey’s blonde curls–an angel.
- The way my clothes smell like coffee and sugar after a shift at the cafe.
- Driving on an sunny afternoon watching leaves fall from the trees and blow across the road.
- Whipped tallow butter.
- I have this grape scented shampoo that smells like the fruit off the vine–slowly washing my hair and smelling the foggy shower steam.
- I found a leather hat at the thrift. It’s like a cowboy hat mixed with a garden hat, and it fits my head just right.
- Bone marrow soup.
- Have you read To Kill a Mockingbird? There’s something incredible about the way Harper Lee writes. Each time I read it, I find myself more in love with her writing.
- Finding Jasper’s stray fur in the vacuum, on dishes, and on clothing I haven’t worn since June.
- As I’m writing, Honey is ferociously chasing her own tail. And once I heard her growl only to find her gnawing on her own foot with such intense vengeance that I wonder what that paw had done to deserve it.
- Opening the blinds to let the morning sun peek in through the window while I’m still in bed.
- “Man I Need” by Olivia Dean
- Now, I can’t tell you that cleaning is on my nectar list. However, I can tell you that 90’s Shania Twain and some hot soapy water come pretty close.
- When my friend Bethany says she’s making burritos.
- I lost my eye lashes and brows and hairline in a fiery accident this autumn. It was really comically horrible, and for some reason the very fond memory of the burn barrel and the dump run and the completed project has found its way here. Nectar.
- A care package in the mail. Specifically one from Ashly. She’s incredibly thoughtful and intentional. And her care packages can’t really be beat.
- To be perfectly honest, I love all packages and deliveries. I just got some Hanes sweatpants in the mail. That made my day too.
- Creating the flavors of the month menu at the coffee shop.
- I saw this pin with a rat on it. “Eat cheese & sin,” it said.
- Taking a warm shower to warm up–I’ll be spending approximately 7/8 of my waking hours warming up in the shower for the rest of the winter.
- Doing a puzzle with friends.
- Making travel plans with Brittany. She’s organized and adventurous. Loves good food and has a knack for finding exactly what we want to do.
- When someone offers to brave the cold so I don’t have to. I swear to you, this is the way to my heart. Pumping gas, letting Honey out, carrying things in from the car.
- Hot wings. I found the biggest pack of wings at Costco. I dream of hot wings.
- Trying something new is hard, but sticking with it until it isn’t hard anymore is so satisfying. Crocheting a blanket, using a drill, changing the oil.
- Big socks.
- Opening the oven after baking and letting the heat of it warm the house.
- Bad Bunny.
