Jasper

As many of you already know, we said goodbye to our farmhand, best friend, 17-time consecutive employee of the month, beloved dog Jasper.

Jasper has been a part of Dear Wildflower since the very beginning–sampling green beans and melons from my first garden, hiding timidly from the lawn mower, joining happily on countless dump runs, testing the soil quality (rummaging the compost pile), and tagging along to any farm chore–the smellier the better. He was present for every tree planted and every nail pounded. He’d rest his head in my lap as I wrote posts, balanced accounts, and recovered from long days. He’d come home as stinky and as dirty as I would, and he rarely complained.

He’s been a constant source of encouragement and love and support even on the darkest of days. And I know I, and D.W., wouldn’t be the same without him.

His sweet and kind soul is resting under twin pines right near the garden, returning gently to the Earth and reminding us how beautiful and temporary this all is.

Thank you so much for your compassion and softness during this time of deep grief. He will be sorely missed.
